“Freeride” Contest Winner to Be Announced Saturday

February 9, 2016 Linnea Kirgan

The winner of the Lights Camera Freeride contest will be announced on February 13th in the Johnson Building multipurpose room.

The winner’s reveal and presentation of the check will take place between 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. during the opening session of HSU Winter Preview. Winter Preview engages prospective students in a number of activities including meeting current students and admission staff, visiting with faculty, and touring the campus.

Newly accepted HSU students for fall 2016 had the opportunity to compete to win a free ride for their first academic year at Hardin-Simmons by entering the #LightsCameraFreeRide video contest.

Twenty-six students competed in the contest by creating and uploading an original 30 to 60 second video about “#going2hsu.” Students were asked to dream about life on campus, who they want to be, and how HSU will help them get there.

Contest winners were based on a combination of viewer votes (35%) and judges scores from a panel made up of five anonymous Hardin-Simmons Employees (65%).

The first place winner will receive tuition, room and meals for the 2016-2017 academic year valued at an estimated $34,118. Second place will receive an on-campus room for the 2016-2017 academic year valued at an estimated $3,900. The top 25 participants who submit a valid entry will receive a $1,000 one-time scholarship.
